My Book Blog Follow Friday

Do you judge a book by its cover?

Yes! My daughter just shared with me the cover of The Raising from GRGenius's blog over at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers (a great blog by the way that you should follow) that looked like it was a book about an alien abduction when it was really a life-after-death, paranormal story. The cover is crucial to giving an accurate depiction of the book in a glance. Something that is hard to do and for covers that do it right - it is a sort of art form.

  1. I can see the alien thing in that cover. I love covers though, the pretty and interesting ones always catch my eye! I'm a follower (again, new domain name)! My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews

  2. Now that you mention it - it does look like alien abduction!

  3. I wouldn't have thought alien abduction without you mentioning it. I think covers are important but I think different readers like different things so it is probably hard to pick a cover that does the hard work of the author justice.

  4. I've already read The Raising, but that's not what I thought when I saw the cover. I thought more of a supernatural type of "raising". Like raising from the dead. Which actually is what they want you to think.

  5. I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.

I expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog -

    Thank God it's Follow Friday!?

  9. Thanks for stopping by my blog and following! I'm looking forward to reading your blog. I often don't even look at a cover for a book, and have a bad memory for what the covers of the books I have read look like. Oh well. Its what's inside the covers that counts most isn't it?
