Holiday Gift Giveaway Hop - Expiation & The Wolves of Andover
Expiation by Greg Messel is the love story of former high school sweethearts, Dan and Katie. Dan, now a famous newspaper reporter in San Francisco, returns home after 30 years reuniting with Katie at of all places, his mother's funeral.
They come together again and try to pick up where they left off. Dan feels he has to make amends to her for leaving and not coming back. Their love for each other is put to the ultimate test.
Messel explores what happened to Dan in Berkeley during the tumultuous 1960s and the notorious events of Patty Hearst in the 1970s.
Overall, Expiation brought back a lot of my own memories of that period in U.S. history. While the warm feeling of the love story made it an enjoyable read.

The Wolves of Andover by Kathleen Kent is a powerful historical fiction set after England's Civil War. It is filled with adventure and high drama.
Thomas and Martha prove to be strong characters. They endure Indian raids, the beheading of royalty and other heinous atrocities.
Kent clearly shows what these people endured during these uncertain times in 17th century Massachusetts.
At the end, a letter written to Martha's daughter, Sarah shows just how much she loved Thomas after everything that they had gone through. It serves as a great bridge to Kent's previous novel, The Heretic's Daughter.
Overall, It was a very exciting book. One that I couldn't put down.
The Wolves of Andover by Kathleen Kent is available for $24.99 at Amazon.com and at HachetteBookGroup.com.
