Wondrous Words Wednesday

Wondrous Words Wednesday

My words are taken from a book I am currently reading called:   A Burnable Book

Puerile-  Childishly silly and trivial.

Elegiacs- refers to compositions that are specific to Greek and Latin poetry.

  1. I've used elegiac as a WWW entry... the adjective means mournful. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I'll call myself puerile. It sounds so much better than childish!

  3. I've seen both words before but I still didn't know what they meant.

  4. Hi Mary Ann,

I had always assumed that elegiac was only linked to mournful, as indicated by Julia. I had no idea of its alternative definition, which made for some interesting reading over at Wikipedia.

I know about puerile, however it isn't a word I tend to use very often, as personally I think it sounds a little derogatory to the person or action in question, even though it is obviously not meant to.

Thanks for sharing, however I am not sure that 'The Burnable Book' is one for me. I do enjoy historical fiction and realise that by default, books in this genre tend to be relative chunkster reads. However, I tend to prefer my forays back in time, to be slightly less intense and demanding.

    Yvonne :)
