Wondrous Words Wednesday
Words taken from Hard Words
1. Tautological- redundancy; needless repetition of the same sense in different words.
2. Malfeasance- wrongdoing, especially by a public official.
3. Hegemony- is a political or cultural dominance or authority over others.
I knew malfeasance but the other two are new to me. I actually tried to guess what tautological means and I was way off.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know any of them.
DeleteHi Mary Ann,
ReplyDeleteLike Kathy, I also know of malfeasance, however both the other words are definitely new to me.
Now I have something of a problem though, as I am most definitely guilty of tautology on a grand scale .... Why say ten words, when twenty will do!!!
During English lessons at school, I was always being picked up for tending to waffle when writing compositions and I ashamed to say that little has changed as I have aged. Even when commenting, you will probably have noticed that I can't write something short and succinct, but will always probably embellish any comment, turning it into more of a conversation than it really needs to be.
You have chosen some excellent words this week and thanks for sharing them,
Yvonne.
I always enjoy your replies, keep them coming.
