Wondrous Words Wednesday

Wondrous Words Wednesday

My words today are taken from the book: Nora Webster by Colm Torbin

1. Delft- is a municipality in the European Netherlands primarily known for its historic town centre with canals.

2. Tot- is a small drink or allowance of liquor or shot.

3. Lorry- is a
motor vehicle designed to transport cargo.

  2. Hi Mary Ann,

I too, knew all of your words this week, although that may well be for geographical reasons more than anything else, as all three have a distinctly European usage.

'Lorry' and 'Tot' are everyday words here in the UK and the Dutch City of Delft, has always been synonymous with the beautiful blue and white pottery it gives its name to.

I am so pleased that you chose to highlight these particular words and I hope that you enjoyed the book,

    Yvonne.

  3. A good friend of mine from high school and college is from the Netherlands. When she moved back there, she sent me some delftware that I hang on our Christmas tree each year, so I knew that word. Thanks for playing along!

  4. I bet this is totally wrong. Delft made me think of those Blue Willow tiles or dishes. Didn't know about the historic town. Enjoyed your words.
