Wondrous words Wednesday

Wondrous Words Wednesday

Words today are taken from a book I am currently reading called Netherwood by Jane Sanderson.

Wastrels- good for nothing people; an idler or loafer.

Penury- extreme poverty; destitution.

Middens- shell heap; an old dump for domestic waste.

  1. I think I've heard or seen penury before but I couldn't define it. I got wastrels confused with minstrels. Great words today!

  2. I knew the first two, but not middens.

  3. I knew all three at one time, but had forgotten the meaning of middens. I think I learn it every time I go to Florida and forget it in between trips! St. Louis is a long way from any middens.

  4. All good words today. I learned something new about penury. I've seen it before but I wasn't sure about the meaning. I was thinking it meant penny pinching or something like that. Glad to learn the real definition.
