The Last Of The Blacksmiths by Claire Gebben Review- Post

The Last Of The Blacksmiths      by Claire Gebben           Review-Post

Michael Harm is a farmer's son in Bavarian Rhineland who dreams of excitement and freedom. At the age of 15, leaves his family behind for America to be an apprentice in his uncle's shop as a blacksmith.

My Thoughts:

This epically written historical fiction novel is an insight into the immigrant experience of Michael Harm and millions of others who came to America to discover their fortune. Through many hardships and very hard work made his way in the world. I found this story to be rich in research of the German people and their love of their heritage. A very interesting story that keeps you turning the pages.

  1. Hi Mary Ann,

Wow! you certainly got stuck into this book quickly, it was obviously a page turner.

I checked out the author's page and was so impressed by the way in which Claire carries out such in depth research for her books, even down to taking classes in the art of blacksmithing and harvesting grapes in Germany, in preparation for writing 'The Last Of The Blacksmiths' ... now that's dedication!

Nice review and I hope that you have a happy and healthy 2014!,
