Wondrous Words Wednesday

Wondrous Words Wednesday

My words today are taken from the book: Not For Profit   by Glenn Shepard

1. Phalenopsis- A purple and white aromatic flower.

2. Epiphytes- is a plant that grows upon another plant(such as a tree).

3. Velamen- A sticky outer covering on the roots of plants.

  1. Hi Mary Ann,

I also have a copy of 'Not For Profit' in my review pile, courtesy of the author, so I would be interested in reading your thoughts about it, should you decide to review.

Before I actually noticed the book your words are taken from, I did wonder if you had been browsing a gardening book, seeing as they are all biologically related! I didn't know any of your words and I am now totally intrigued to find out where they fit into the story.

Thanks for sharing and I hope that you are having a good week.

    Yvonne

  2. Those are all new to me. I obviously don't know much about plants.

  3. Epiphytes is one of my favourite words. I first came across it during a guided rainforest walk one holiday. We found an excuse to work epiphytes into conversations every day afterwards!!

The other two words were completely new to me though.

  4. Yvonne- The words definitely fit in with the story.

    Bermudaonion- I don't either.

Brono Joy- That's great, the walk in the rainforest sounds very interesting.

  5. I've seen epiphyte before, but had forgotten it, it doesn't come up all that often for me... The other two were new to me too.
