Wondrous Words Wednesday
My words today are taken from Beth Hoffman's Looking For Me.
Repousee'- Shaped or decorated with patterns in relief formed by hammering and pressing on the reverse side. Used especially of metal.
Monteith bowl- The bowl rests on a foot-ring or splayed-foot and is usually decorated with gadrooning, embossing vertical fluting.
Gadrooning- is a decorated motif consisting of convex curves in a series.
Sounds like someone has some nice dinnerware! Great new words.
ReplyDeleteThankfully the pictures helps it all to make sense :-)
ReplyDeleteThree new words for me too. That bowl is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOh - gadrooning was in the book I was reading too (Stealing with Style). There's so much to learn about antiques!
ReplyDeleteThose are all new to me too!
ReplyDeleteLisa- Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLouise- I love that bowl.
Debbie- There really is.
Bermudaonion- I never heard of them either.
Brona Joy- I thaink so too, thanks!
Thanks so much for featuring words from my novel. The photo you put up of the monteith bowl is really lovely!
