Q: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?
It depends on the storyline with love triangles, but bad editing is not good for me. Also I mentioned this before, I don't like the introduction of too many characters in a book. What's your opinion?

I've discovered that I must have plot!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for stopping by The Book Asylum :). I guess the introduction of too may characters depends on the book. For example, I liked it in the Song of Ice and Fire books, but in other books I've felt overwhelmed by inconsequential peripheral characters. I guess it just depends on the book...

Too many characters can be really hard. Anything more than 5 main characters becomes way too hard for me to follow. The Kindrily series by Karen Amanda Hooper is really good so far, but it's so many characters to have to follow. It's really hard to keep track. I wouldn't want to have to read too many stories with that many characters.

For me it is just the story, if the story sucks then it feels more like reading a textbook. But the editing can ruin a story if it is bad enough, but I can usually move passed it if the story is great! New follower GFC. www.yellsworld.blogspot.com (already followed me)
ReplyDeleteI rarely like a love triangle, but I agree that there are a few good ones out there. And it definitely depends on how the two love interests were introduced. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Old follower.
ReplyDeleteyes it depends on the author's ability to create a believable love story....

If the story is captivating then I can overlook (to a point) editing details, although being an editor by trade, proofing and editing errors in published work drives me crazy. But, ultimately, I have to have a story that keeps my interest or I won't finish the book.

I hate bad editing as well. As I said in my post, it takes away my enjoyment of the novel, because half of the time you never know what they really mean! Too many characters is also pretty annoying. :P Thanks for stopping by! Old follower!

Too many characters are hard to keep track of. I would rather have a few that I can get attached to. Thanks for stopping by my FF! Old follower.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. Too many characters can make it difficult to keep up with the story and what's going on.

Bad editing can be a real pain. As for introducing too many characters, I guess it depends on how many is "too many" :) I'm a fantasy fan, so I'm fine with several characters!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and following my blog, I’ve returned the favor :)
