Wondrous Words Wednesday
My words today are taken from: Unusual & Interesting Words
1. Nieve- Hand or fist.
2. Pallium- White woolen band symbolising archbishop's authority.
3. Absterge- Wipe clean; expunge; purge; purify.
4. Damask- Fine lustrous fabric with flat patterns and satin weave.

The only one of these I'm familiar with is damask. I would never have thought "nieve" meant "hand" or "fist."
ReplyDeleteI knew damask, but the rest are new. I like absterge. I could use that word!
ReplyDeleteThe only one I knew was damask. The rest are new to me. Thanks for playing along!
ReplyDeleteThey are strange and interesting words, the only one I knew was damask too.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary Ann,
ReplyDeleteWith the risk of being considered slightly repetitive, I too have heard of damask, but none of your other words.
Absterge is a great sounding word, although when you already have the word expunge, it may be considered almost too similar to be necessary.
Nieve is an excellent find and has great possibilities as a conversation stopper, whilst people try and work out what it is that I am talking about!
Thanks for sharing your words,
Yvonne
Bermudaonion, Louise- Me too!
ReplyDeleteSQT- I didn't either.
Joy- Thanks! for commenting.
