Wondrous Words Wednesday
Since I've been at a loss for some "Q" words lately playing scrabble, I thought I would share some with you.
1. Quaff- Drink(something; esp. an alcoholic drink) heartily.
2. Qi- is frequently translated as life energy, life force.
3. Quagmire- an area of miry or boggy ground whose surface yields under the tread; a bog.
4. Qats- It is a tropical evergreen shrub that can primarily be found in Africa.
I use qi in words with friends but had no idea what it means!
ReplyDeleteFunny that you found two that don't have the expected u after the Q. I guess because they are both foreign.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Qats. I wonder how it's pronounced.
I've usually heard Qi pronounced Chee and sometimes it's spelled Chi, which English speakers are more likely to pronounce correctly. I sometimes do a form of exercise called Qi Gong that comes from China. A little like yoga but with more fluid movement.
Qats would certainly be useful in scrabble when you don't have a U. Quagmire is a great word. As is quaff.
ReplyDeleteBermudaonion- I didn't know there were so many.
ReplyDeleteJoy weese Moll- I think they are foreign words.
Louise- Very useful in scrabble.
