It is the late 1940's, and Steve Bowman, a fifteen-year-old Nebraska farm boy who has run away from his abusive father, finds himself a small Alabama town with only the clothes on his back. When an elderly woman befriends him, he moves into a dilapidated shed in her backyard and sets about fashioning a new identity.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great read and I have already added it to my list. I am interested in the segregational aspects of the community which Steve has chosen to live in, and the inherent loneliness he must be feeling as he must live in continual isolation, but the notion that he has the ability to create a new identity for himself and is determined to better himself, is an absorbing concept.
