Buster - The Shih-tzu pup

Buster - The Shih-tzu pup

Since we have experienced a lot of rain lately, Buster had to miss some of his walks in the park. As you know he loves the park and meeting new friends. I am still amazed at how he tries to understand and sometimes does understand what you are saying to him. One of the two dogs next door to us ran away and hasn't returned as of yet. The other dog barks when she is in the yard and Buster responds with his barking as if they are speaking to each other. I would love to know what they are saying to one another.I do hope the other dog returns but it has been two weeks already.Stay tuned to more of Buster.

Duty Free by Moni Mohsin Review& Giveaway

This was an enjoyable very lighthearted read about arranged marriages set in India. A mother and Aunt, who desperately try to marry-off their nephew, Jonkers ,to a wealthy girl. Jonkers was married before and is now divorced. They do not want him to marry a poor girl again. They love showing their rich lifestyle and what material possessions they have to their acquaintances. They want to see who is out there for Jonkers at the many weddings they are attending. It is also comical to hear how some of the English words and phrases are used. Jonkers wants to find a bride on his own and he doesn't care if she is rich or poor. Will he get his way?

All in all: I really enjoyed reading about the traditions and customs of a different culture.

Dancing With The Stars

The judges critique of the stars was hard as they pointed out every slip-up that they made. Nancy Grace couldn't hold it together in practice and started to cry. Her quick-step in the performance gave her a 21 score and a wardrobe malfunction. J.R, still my favorite did a terrific jive, which Bruno thought was more of a Lindy Hop. They did score a 22 , but the highest was won by Ricky and Derek a 23.

Project Runway- 9-23-11 Show

Project Runway

Last night's show presented a tough challenge for the designers. They had to design clothes for the rock band Sheepdogs, creating an image for them. Oliver had his work cut out for him, when his subject turned out to be a large guy. He was really taken aback by his size. Although he designed men's clothing before. Viktor was declared the winner. His fringed jacket won the judges favor. They looked like something from the 60's era to me. Most of them never designed for men and found it difficult. Adam Lambert was one of the guest judges and I thought gave an honest critique. In the end Oliver failed badly and had to pack up his things.

The Debt- The Movie

I saw the film The Debt over the week-end and found it to be a very suspenseful espionage thriller.
As it takes you across two different time periods, with the trio who tries to track down the Nazi war criminal, Dieter Vogel. At a very great risk and personal cost , the teams mission was accomplished or was it? It was a movie worth going to see if you like suspense.

Giveaway & Review
Peace at the Edge of Uncertainty

by Neil Hanson

My thoughts:
This was a very interesting and true story of a man who felt the real closeness of God in his life. He experienced a near death experience when he was knocked unconscious during a wrestling meet and felt something so wonderful and truly divine into what he said was pure harmony and perfect light, that lifted him up from the present. The trials and tribulations he had faced with his father came to a reckoning of peace as he lay dying in the hospital. As he sat faithfully by his father's side day after day thinking about what he should have told him before it was too late. He began to feel the presence of that divine light surrounding them in the room and angel voices as his father slipped away. He truly believes the kingdom of God is within each of us and is with us here and right now.

All in all:
This is a remarkable true story of finding peace within ourselves and a strong belief of a higher presence. A good read that doesn't take too much of your time.

EBOOK GIVEAWAY - The Invasion of 2020 by Ami Blackwelder

The Invasion of 2020
Summary:

Alaska 2020.

Earth. Shifters. Invasion.

Set in Alaska in 2020, Uri Petrov and Dr. Samantha Croon find their lives intertwined when the shifters first land on Earth. Both motivated by love for their families, each is taken down a different path that will change the course of their lives forever and eventually the fate of the world.

Meanwhile, the military has divided into fractions...those who believe in the alien invasion and those who refuse to accept it, leaving Captain Raul at opposing ends with other heads of military.

With the shifters invading the forests of Kenai Lake, they explore their new world of refuge, and must discover how to shift in animal form while uncovering what it truly means to be human.

With underlining themes of how prejudice breaks human connections and animal/wildlife conservation, this novel which has received rave reviews will leave the reader flipping through the pages.

This is the fifth book written in the Shifter Evolutions Saga. The Invasion of 2020 is the prequel to Shifters of 2040. The Shifter Evolutions begins with the middle book, The Shifters of 2040, and gives the reader the choice for the past or future. This release of the first book in the series, The Invasion of 2020, will allow readers to engage the series chronologically also.

Excerpt:

She pushed her toes into an inside corner formed by two planes of rock and used her fingers to grip inside the tiniest of holes, the crimpers Uri warned her about earlier. Her fingers would feel that later. But for now, she focused on the struggle upward, a struggle that to her meant internal serenity. She needed that peace, given all she had been through the recently. Lights. A chase. Death. Possibly murder?

Her mind raced over the images on the lake while she climbed. The colorful display, the innocuous feeling of it all...until that evening when she went into the forest to find Paul. Uri called the lights a game put on by kids. But she didn’t want to lie to herself anymore. She didn’t want Uri to lie for her. Their reality was cracking and she needed — finally wanted — to con- front it.

At the summit, Julia plopped bottom first on the ground and dusted her hands on her blue spandex top. Uri opened his can- teen for water and took several loud gulps. After a few deep breaths, Julia reached her hand up to Uri, and with one yank from him, she stood.

“I need to talk.”

“About?” Uri cocked a thick brow as the morning light washed over them. Above the world, they could see a mix of snowcapped peaks in the distance and surrounding lush plains. Broad, murky glacial rivers raced through thick, braided gravel floodplains where bears, moose and other wildlife could be spot- ted. The lofty peak of Mt. McKinley stood not far from them and both felt the roaring winds blowing clouds off the hefty summit.

Meandering ahead, she surveyed the picturesque environment, and answered Uri’s question with her back to him. “About what we saw...about what happened.” She reacted with a tinge of harshness, as if this should be bothering him too, as if he shouldn’t have to ask what this “talk” or this “climb” was all about.

“I’m listening.” Uri placed his wide, warm hand over her shoulder from behind and stopped her.

Turning toward him, she sighed. “What did we really see? Not the story you think would be better if we believed...”

“I...I don’t know.”

“What did you and Samantha find? What does she think? What happened to Paul?”
He hated to unnerve Julia and cringed. Samantha didn’t want to speak to him anymore, and the conversations they had felt private, like he would be breaking a secret between them if he told Julia. But she deserved to know what he knew, too. Paul would want that, and so he told her.

“Sam never saw those kind of light. She took sample from forest for study. News say ‘aberration of Aura Borealis’, but they appear elsewhere, not just Anchorage.”

Nodding, Julia’s sea-like eyes widened. “Samples? They left behind samples!?”
“Yes, but I never saw them. That is just what Samantha said.” And...”

“And I not convinced they are natural...or hoax anymore.”

“Then what?” Julia knew what he meant, but needed to hear the words that racked her brain day and night.

“From somewhere else...”

“Like New York?” She sounded sarcastic. She wanted him to say it first.

Pointing upward, he said, “The sky, space...I don’t know.” Uri professed his truest belief, but not without a tinge of disbelief. Could the lights really be as the “crazed” man on the lake had suggested — alien?

Jane Eyre- The Film

I saw the 2011 adaption of the British romantic drama film of Jane Eyre the other day and liked it almost as much as the other ones. This one didn't start out at the very beginning and had flash back scenes throughout,It was a different way of presenting it. The darker side of the story was brought into it, making it much more than a period romance. The actress who played Jane was given a more played down appearance and Rochester had the spirit of the role. I enjoyed seeing a period piece again, but I wish they would do more of them , different ones.

Sarah's Key - The movie

I went to see Sarah's Key over the week-end, this French drama took place during the rounding up of the non-French Jews in german occupied France. Sarah and her family were taken one day unexpectedly by the German soldiers to be taken to Auschwitz to be killed. She decided her younger brother would be protected and she hid him away in a secret hiding place in the apartment. She later realized it was a big mistake and was determined to get back and free him. It is a sad realization and very tragic for her. The story of Sarah is told years later by a journalist who happens to share some ties to that same apartment. She is determined to find out if Sarah is still alive or at least some one related to her. It is a very interesting movie.

Dreamers by Margaret Murray Review and Giveaway

This is a story set in the 60's in America during the Civil Right's era. I found the struggles of Annie a very young white woman, who loved a black man, Thomas very captivating. They are both dreamers, Thomas wanting to be an actor at all costs. He comes from a very poor background. His mother is raising his son , who he loves very much but knows he is better off with her. Annie , a talented violinist, coming from a much better background, leaves her family to continue studying at Julliard in New York. She finds Thomas when she gets there and they can't stay away from each other. He has kept secrets from her and is afraid it will keep them apart. I found their story captivating as they go through the world of drugs and the trials they have to face in that time period. The seedy side of living in a run down part of N.Y. is a fact of life for Thomas as he tries hard to get parts for plays that feature black actors. Annie and Thomas part ways and meet up 40 yrs. later to see where their dreams have taken them.

All in all- An interesting and provocative read.

Project Runway- 9-1-11 Show

Project Runway

Last night's challenge was to design avant-garde designs inspired by students ages 9 to 17 from the Harlem School of the Arts. Some of the paintings were bizarre, from a beast that looked wolf like to a tree on fire. However swatch the doggie mascot in Mood got on air a few times with Tim chasing him around. The winner was Anthony Ryan's dress, which happened to be the one I liked. The dress was a clever mimic of brush strokes from the painting.Someone had to leave and that was Josh for the second time, he just wasn't up to par.

The ghosts in that building did not want them there.
