Wondrous Words Wednesday

1. Castellan- A castellan was the governor or caretaker of castle or keep. The word stems from the Latin Castellanus derived from castellum "castle".

2. tinderbox- A small container containing flint, firesteel.

  1. I've heard tinderbox but castellan is new to me. I should be able to remember it since it has castle in it.

  2. It's funny how tinderbox is in relatively common usage (or at least in drought ravaged Australia it is), but I've never thought about the words itself or what it might actually mean.
