All other things being equal–do you prefer used books? Or new books? (The physical speciman, that is, not the title.) Does your preference differentiate between a standard kind of used book, and a pristine, leather-bound copy?

I always prefer a hardcover to a paperback, and one that's in good condition - preferably with large type. I like how hardcovers will stay open on their own accord instead of struggling to crease the spine of a paperback. They don't have to be brand new, just as long as they're not too beat up.
I'm with you. I like a good hardcover for it's feel and weight. I don't tend to keep paperbacks.
ReplyDeleteI love shiny hardcovers but I find reading paperbacks easier. I always seem to damage the dust jackets on hardbacks and if I take them off I usually lose them.

K. Harrington- thanks! for commenting.
ReplyDeleteSally- I agree, thanks! for blogging.
Oh I dislike hardcovers because they are so heavy and I like to keep my book in my purse. I prefer a paperback any day.
ReplyDeleteI like paperback to carry in my purse, but I also like hardback books. Actually, I like all books, as long as they are not falling to pieces, and all the pages are there.
ReplyDeleteI used to ONLY buy hardcovers, but now like paperbacks too. For series, they all have to either be in hardcover or paperback.
ReplyDeleteI definitly prefer the cost of a used book, LOL!

I love hardbacks, but they're too heavy sometimes to read comfortably. I do like how they can stay open sometimes though.
ReplyDeleteI prefer paperbacks because they are easier to carry than hardbooks, but whatever book I have, I like it to be in good condition. It doesn't necessarily have to be new, though.
ReplyDeleteI found my dad reading a hard cover book a while back using two clips, one on each side to hold the pages. I thought it was funny because he likes hard covers because the pages turn easy. How odd we all are at our preferences.
ReplyDeletehere's my btt: http://composingcat.blogspot.com/2011/02/booking-through-thursday.html
Hello! Thanks for visiting my blog ^_^
ReplyDeleteIf my budget allows it, I buy my books hardcover - which is most of the time since I do tend to buy books (the ones I really, really want to own AND touch) on their day of release.
Reflections of a bookaholic- Paperbacks are good for carrying around and traveling.
ReplyDeleteGi Gi Ann- Yes, your're right, if a book is intact that's a good thing.
Ellie- keeping them the same.
Kimberlee- true, me too.
Dutchie- thanks! for the comment.
Yvonne- I agree.
Cat- that's very true.
Ayanami- Thanks! for stopping by.
Thanks for visiting my blog:) If I buy books, I by paperback and new.
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for the link to your BTT response, Tribute Books Mama! I see you have the same love for hardcover books—I admit, I grew up in a house favouring hardcover first editions. Haha, all right, so we're a bit book snobbish—must be embedded in the ol' DNA. ;) Thanks for visiting the Lit-o-verse!
